- I received my saw the other day. I enjoy making wooden crafts, so I was looking forward to trying this out. My previous experience with a full-size scroll saw has expectations that are a bit high. I wasn’t disappointed. On 3/4″ and 1 1/2″ pine boards, it worked wonderfully. Today, I spent 5 hours and most of it using the Dremel scroll saw in my workshop. There were no problems at all. The blade has never broken. I am a stickler for grading instruments, and this one gets an “A”. The only difference between this one and a larger version is the throat depth (which is greater). There are no issues if you do so. The blade changes faster than a bigger saw, and it is also less difficult to change. Another benefit is the compact size. It’s mounted on my workbench beside my big saw, which I may sell as soon as possible. I’ll almost certainly get rid of my larger saw since this one is that.
- I’ve only had it for a day, and I’m certain it’ll be my favorite gadget by far. Making tiny items from wood is one of my favorite hobbies, and this is by far the greatest tool for cutting precise Japanese characters like these! It’s true that it doesn’t include the fence/miter gauge, but you can also get it.
- Given the choice, I wouldn’t buy this again. Simply go for a “real” tool of the same price. It feels flimsy and unfinished, almost like a toy. The blades are difficult to install because they cut through more than 1/4″ of wood and you must go very slowly (even pine). It’s extremely loud. It does not, however, come with a miter gauge. It must be ordered over the phone for a few dollars more. Although it makes sense why they didn’t include the miter gauge, because scroll saws apparently don’t cut straight very well…
